Myofascial Release Evaluation 1hr 30 minutes
Your initial visit will be an evaluation. It is very important that your therapist gains all needed background information in order to give you the best treatment possible. Your therapist will discuss past injuries and traumas as well as your day to day routine and habits. The remainder of the session which is generally 60 minutes to 75 minutes will be hands on treatment followed by education in stretches and exercises to be completed on your own.
Myofascial Release 60 minute Session
Typical session time. The 60 minute session allows for time to reach 2-3 pain areas. Focus areas are most likely upper OR lower body. Following hands on treatment you will be given "homework" in the form of stretches and exercises to maintain functional gains. This is the most popular session.
Myofascial Release 90 and 120 minute Sessions
90 minute:Â For moderate pain in 3-4 areas both upper and lower body.
120 minute:Â For full body releases and moderate pain upper and lower body.
Following hands on treatment you will be given "homework" in the form of stretches and exercises to maintain functional gains.
Myofacial Release 30 minute Session
For one small pain area. As each release takes from 3-10 minutes and each area likely requires several releases this short session would be appropriate for only one small pain area.  Following hands on treatment you will be given "homework" in the form of stretches and exercises to maintain functional gains.
What To Expect
1. Upon arrival your therapist will ask you some questions about your medical history and habits including sleep, work, and leisure.
2. Your therapist will then ask you to get comfortable in loose fitting shorts/tank top. Myofascial release must be completed skin on skin with friction so no lotion prior to visit please.
3. The treatment consists of slow steady pressure to each region of tightness/restriction which usually takes 3-10 minutes. You my feel a tingling or "electric" feeling which is the fascia releasing and the energy returning to the area. You should not feel real pain, only therapeutic pain. If you must hold your breath then the therapist is pushing too hard and the treatment will be less effective. You must alert the therapist to this.
4. Following treatment your therapist with give you some "homework" (exercises and stretching) to be completed to maintain proper alignment.
5. After treatment you may immediately feel better or you may be a bit sore for the day of and the day after, like a workout. You could try heat to relax the area and encourage blood flow. Generally after the first couple of days clients feel much better than they did prior, but sometimes the pains return most likely due to reverting back to old postures and misalignment or the need for deeper release of restrictions. Further treatment and training is recommended.

6. Many times patients will ask how often they should return. It really does depend on the person and the level of restrictions that they have. If the pains that you have have been bothering you for some time, you will more than likely require more visits to release those restrictions. 1-2 sessions per week for at least a month are recommended in these cases. Then, once the restrictions are released...and if you do your "homework", you should only need to come in occasionally for "tune ups"
