HELP! Are you a mom with littles with neck and shoulder pain?
It is challenging enough to have a new baby or a little one and be sleep deprived :-) In addition to that many moms suffer with shoulder and neck pain related to nursing, carrying car seats, and holding their little ones.
Nursing moms often hold babies in the same positions with their backs arched and arm adducted close to body. These postures cause strain on the posterior neck and upper back muscles causing them to become tight in the long position. The front pec and neck muscles also become tight in the short position. This abnormal alignment causes strain and pressure to nerves causing pain.
When moms carry car seats (with sometimes pretty heavy babies) the shoulder is not in a stable position. Ideally you should always carry heavy objects close to the body both to protect your back and your shoulder. This is impossible with a car seat. This strain on the shoulder can also cause pain in the neck and shoulder
Moms are busy and need to multi task often carrying a little on their hip while using the other arm to get things done. Again this causes tightness in the pec muscle and adductor muscles of the carrying arm and also puts the body off balance causing postural changes and tightness in the back as well.
For these reasons moms need myofascial release! When the tight fascia is released through prolonged stretch their bodies are able to return to a natural posture. With education on self MFR and occasional MFR “tune ups” moms can maintain that relief!
